Catherine Obanda, professionally known as CWEZY, is a Kenyan singer-songwriter, music producer, poet, actor, humanitarian and entrepreneur.

She is one of Kenya’s rising new generation artists bound to take the world by storm. Although Cwezy is labelled as a hip-hop, sometimes pop artist, she prides herself as a “No-Genre” artist who relates with her audience, drawing inspiration from anywhere. The name, “Cwezy” was a high school nickname derived from the word “crazy”. This was due to her adventurous spirit and constant endeavours to pursue some rather insane ideas.

Cwezy’s musical journey commenced at the age of 7 where she formed a group with two other classmates they named; “Love Birds”. Since then, she continued to write poetry and shared her art with Patrick “Saint P” Mbaru (Award-winning music producer), who agreed to support her dream of becoming a musical artist.

It was in 2011 after constant visits to Sain P’s studio where Cwezy met a South African-based producer who came to Kenya for studies. He showed interest in Cwezy’s style and they created a sound which they called; “Equatorial House”. Their first collaboration gained popularity amongst her peers which then enthralled a local radio presenter who offered Cwezy the opportunity to showcase her new debut single on live radio. The song got its first spin on a global radio station and thus was the beginning of CWEZY.

During this time, Cwezy was still finding her sound and was not eminently certain on the right path to exert musically. This led to a 4-year break before she returned to the studio where she recorded her first official single titled; “That I know” in 2016, which she'd released in December of 2018. The song was inspired by Marshmello type music and was rather off from what gets airplay on local radio stations these days. There was no major buzz for this release aside from a press article on New Music Weekly but it helped her get a slot to perform live before an audience.

Musically, Cwezy wishes to break through the industry as a globally recognized singer/songwriter, music producer as well as an artist in different aspects. She hopes to work with gargantuan names in the industry and mentor a new generation of revolutionary artists who stand for positive verisimilar causes. During a brief interview, Cwezy revealed that she has intentions to work with an Atlanta based music label in an entertainment web series and plans to own her own music and brand label in the future. We honestly cannot wait to behold what this promising artist has to offer!
